Ya I got them from a LFS called golden fish aquarium and the lady had no idea what the male was. The female was labeled as a fire red uganda but looks nothing like female fire reds I've had in the past. This Male is etremeley dark blue/ black and before use to be really light gray when he was smaller.

I am going to say that you have a male Astatotilapia Nubilus. The slope of the forehead is a dead giveaway for it being the Nubilus. He definitely has the look of a hap. More pics would help too.

With the female, it is hard to say. One might almost think that it is a Pundamilia Neyereri "Red Flank" female. You can see some of the barring and what looks to be just a hint of red, but that could also be glare. With females, sometimes it is just a guess. More pics would help, especially if you can catch her being aggressive and showing a little mroe coloration.

Is it possible it could be a fire red uganda female? Could the male me a zebra nyeri?

Thanks! The female has a very thin red strip on the top of the dorsal fin that the picture doesn't show. I'll take some more pics later tonight.
