Hey
I have 1 tiger barb, 1 albino tiger barb, 2 cherry barbs, two gold barbs, a dwarf gourami, 3 yoyos and 1 bristlenose, and everything besides the loaches and the pleco are lame.
The barbs used to be active, they would swim all over the 29 gallon tank, chase each other, and just generally interact. Now they just sit in one spot, usually under some cover, and don't move. They have moments when they look like their old selves again, but they go through times when they look unhealthily still.
I can always tell when the tiger barb is stressed, because his color will fade, but for the most part he isn't faded, and none of the other fish exhibit signs of stress.
The yoyo's seem to love the tank, they are very active and always moving. The pleco acts like a pleco. My gourami is happy. The water parameters are great - nitrates/nitrites/ammonia are at or very close to 0. The alkalinity is ideal, the pH is at 7, and the water is moderately hard. The temperature of the tank is approx. 73F.
Does anyone know why these guys are acting like this? Is it because they need other fish of their kind to be with? I have had them all for about 7 months now, and over the last month or so they have been having these lathargic fits. Any and all help and advice is very greatly appreciated. Thank you.
