I know some other members had issues with this in the past im curious to how they resolved it. Well recently my landlord was in my house for inspection. Everything checked out fine but she is claiming that my apartment complex has a tank size limit of ten gallons. Witch I was never told even before I moved and made it clear to them I will be keeping fish tanks. Now the property manager and owner changed I renewed the lease but wasn't told about this till now.

What does it say in your lease?

My apartment complex has a tank size limit of 10 gallons too but that hasn't stopped me from putting in two 10s, a 55, 90, 100, and 240 (and to top things off, its an upstairs unit lol).

They did an inspection a few years ago when I only had the 90 and a few 55s but it was still a pita cuz I had to bring the fish to a friend's house and hide the tanks in my closet. They came to install carbon monoxide detectors a few months before I got the 240 but it was just the maintenance guy so I left the tanks up and all he said was woah what kind of fish are those :p I doubt that's all he would say after seeing the 240 but I'm kinda looking for an excuse to move anyways so it's not a huge deal if they find out (as long as nothing floods the complex first... knock on wood). Luckily the floors are concrete or I wouldn't even consider having that much weight up here, but I doubt renters insurance would cover a tank blowing out so Im resealing the 240 next week to be safe.

That sucks they saw your setup tho, u should've hid them before the inspection lol. They have to give at least 24hr notice before even knocking on the door (at least in CA). Not much u can do now that the property manager knows other than move or sell the tanks and get a nano :( Then again, if it's not specifically written out in your lease u may have a leg to stand on in court. But if they're making a big deal about it u won't be able to change their minds so it depends if u wanna take things that far

Chop the landlord up and feed to the monsters no one will ever know lol , im gona be in same boat when mine turns up no pets and my house looks like an aquarium with my dog sat in the middle of it all hahaha :D

That sucks! My landlord came round last week and was greeted by a 100gal under the stairs behind a fake wall. I was worried as hell but he loved it and complemented what a nice job I did

That's a cool idea but I doubt they would let me do something like that

No pets allowed without a complete pet agreement. The pet rules do not apply to anyone that has them because they are disabled.

Time to look for a new apartment or get rid of your tank =/ why I was so glad when we stopped renting... Never sign anything unless you read the fine print ect. You can try talking and being nice about it... threatening ect never gets anyone anywhere at the end of the day. Do you have insurance incase the tank busted ect? if you do explain this as well, talk to your insurance company to get them whatever paperwork they need... because at the end of the day its all about covering their asses and w/ tanks that's the biggest worry. Give them what they want and you may get lucky and I would put it that bluntly... " What do I need to do to keep my tank other then find a new apartment/ect? " It's not a threat.. it shows how important your tank is too you... its the equivalent to someones elses dog/cat ect. And shows them you want to work with them... if they are asses about it.. i'de be looking for a new place reguardless.

I'm looking into renters insurance to if it would cover something like a tank busting. The funny thing is that both times that we did the lease it was made clear that I kept fish and it was written in a contract saying it but now it changed.
