I searched and didnt find any threads about the cost of lapradeis- It seems that laps are always noticeably cheaper than other polys- I can find foot long specimens for $20- $30 all day long- I know some of the very common polys (sens, dels, ornates, and endlis) can be found at that price too but thats for 3"ers not 12"ers like with the laps- or am I just hallucinating again? Thanks for any input

Hmmm...I hardly ever see Laps for sale over here.

Laps are the most under appreciated bichirs, so they haven't caught on in the 'mainstream' bichir keeping like endlis and dels, so demand is low, thus the price is low.

On top of that, the locality variants or lapradei-like possible new species do have nicer patterns and contrast.

oh and a sen that sells for $20 to $30 at a small size is a rip off.

god i wish i was in socal, only laps i've ever seen here was at a ghetto pet store that got a few. picked up mine for $20. would have bought all if i new how much i would grow to love them(my personal favorite)

Thats what Im asking- what about them do you love? Im curious
Thanks guys

so given that each bichir is unique and i only have my one lap, mine is pretty active. she's sometimes shy but during feedings she is AWESOME. she usually just inhales food, incuding feeders and 6" earthworms. only time recently she actually had to "chew" something was when i accidently dropped a full shrimp:eek: into the tank. (she's about 12" currently)
my del is actually the shy one, and of course my to pollis are always out.

I personally like their subdued pattern, and love the green coloration and horizontal lines. the top of her head has a beautiful pattern as well. to me the fact that you really have to know them to appreciate their beauty. her fins also i compare to a bettas, very long and flowing, especially her pectorals and tail fin. i could go on and on.

i really want to get a koliba variant but that will have to wait until i get my 150 back up.

here's a pic:hearts: names Starla(after movie slither cause "b----'s hard core."
starla edit.jpg

the dorsal spine that isn't up is actually a broken one from when the lfs was catching her. they put her in one of those plastic containers and she jumped out. i caught her but she slipped out of my hands and proceeded to take off under the tanks, quick little sucker too:grinno: anyways somewhere it got broke and healed that way but i think it gives her character.

anyways, i'll stop but give laps a chance;)

Yup...I'm in SoCal, but all the lfs I go to never really have Laps. I've seen them maybe twice.
