I found my Lap Bircher (7-8inches) on the rug in the spare bedroom where we I keep the extra aquariums, he was about 1 foot form the aquarium upside down and had red marks on his underside. I have an Australian aro in the same tank (about 4-5 inches) who appeared fine this morning. They are in the 10gal quarantine tank that is divided, and gets 2 to 3 water changes each week of 25-50%. Does the red on the underside signify anything?

Tank was bare, but I did notice a slimy clear/whites stringy stuff in the tank. Can this be the slime coat on the fish?

The red marks probably came from scooting around on the rug and also lost of slime coat. The slimy stuff on the tank is most likely slime coat also. I would put some melafix/pimafix to help prevent secondary infection and also maybe add some salt to help it rebuild slime coating a little faster. Also keep the water extra clean for the time being until you see the red marks start to go away.

I forgot to mention he was dead when I found him all dried up so he must have done it right after we went to bed. Just glad the dog didn't find him.

Oh I thought it was alive still. Did you try putting it back in the water? Sometimes they may appear dead but are actually still alive.
