what colors does lapradei's come in? i've been to my LFS yesterday and i saw a pure black bichir, i asked the guy from the LFS if he can catch it and let me see it closely and he did. it was very black and just the under belly is white. im pretty sure it's not an ornate because it lacks all the patterns. the guy said that it's a lapradei. i'm not sure though. a lapradei as black as that would definitely be cool. and i know that substrate affects the bichirs color, but the tank it was in is bare bottom. so i don't know.

A melanistic variant is possible in any species and I would pick it up no matter what it is. A variant like that might double or triple the price so if they think its just a diff species then hey snatch it up.

its not black morph lap b.c iv seen a black morph lap, belly is black too

then what could it be? i beleive that melanistic bichirs are jet black and even the belly is black? is that right?

He probably have a dark object that he placed his tank on. That's why the bichir is dark. One of my friend here which is also a member, he have a black tahitian moon sand and his lap is charcoal dark. Can't even see the patterns.

I wouldn't think it a melanistic as he said it got a white under belly. Melanistic should be complete black and not showing any white.

the tank has a bare bottom with a canister filter and lights are always on. are black colored laps common?

could it be a dark delhezi? b.c delhezi in barebottom go greyish

I would buy it if I were you. Laps are not common in the Philippines and there are only a few people that have them in the country. Buy it now before somebody else does. Please post pics as well for confirmation.
