i am trying to figure out the color variets of the Lapradei.

green = Guinea Lapradei

tan/brown = ???

gray= ???

Infblue... you have a couple of my unknowns. do you know their origin? i personally like the gray one you have:drool:

i already decided which endi variet i would like to get. seems like the volta endi has the most contrast. now its on to the laps.

glad you like that one. its my favorite too :)

people don't usually talk about locale variant of lapradei, unlike endli, since they aren't too popular. looking at lapradei pics on the web, especially on japanese sites, you'll find lapradei really vary in color/contrast (i don't know japanese, can't tell if the locale is specified), but the general body profile and overall pattern is consistent (i'm referring to the 'regular' lapradei, i.e. NOT the guinea form). differences in color/contrast/markings may be individual differences within a population or maybe locale variant or maybe environmental (since lapradei is heavily affected by substrate/background color and stress level). all these make it difficult to associate locale with color.

i'm only aware of the Guinea form that's explicitly stated, only because it has noticeably different markings than the regular lapradei. Whether they are truly P.bichir lapradei its hard to say, but i'll stick with that for now. the pics below are all Guinea. the 2nd and 3rd pic are the same fish in the same tank and you can see the change in contrast over time. and 4th pic is my favorite always has nice contrast to start out with.

i also have a few regular lapradei pics. just let me know if you'd like me to post them. don't wanna flood the thread with pics haha.

btw, volta endli has one of the faintest stripes, so i think it should have one of the least contrast actually. i believe Chad/Guinea endli are the ones with the most contrast.

''don't wanna flood the thread with pics haha.''Sure ya do flood away or I'll have to post the pics I have of the late pickles lol and you know my pics are horrible-Anne

lol well here they are, the 'regular' P.bichir lapradei. they don't begin to illustrate how varied the color, contrast and to an extent markings can be. going back to the color thing. honestly i have no idea where my 'green' one (2nd pic) originates, guinea? possible, but just as possible is anywhere else in west africa.

when Toyin uses the label 'Guinea lapradei', he's referring to the ones in the above post, and not a regular lap with green.

imo, get the 'Guinea lapradei' if your getting a lap.
