I keep A.spatula (alligator gar). Now has size 30 cm.

I have one question. When they grow to the size of 150-200 cm such food should I feed it?

That will require large pieces of food. PELLETIA be small. Inactive you tip?

In Slovak language:

Ja chovám A.spatula ( alligator gar). Teraz má veľkosť 30 cm.

Mám jednu otázku. Keď dorastie na veľkosť 150-200 cm akou potravou ju mám kŕmiť?

To už bude potrebovať veľké kusy jedla. Pellety budú malé. Máte neaký tip?

im not too sure if giant gars have specific diet requirements, but if not, then something similiar to what you're feeding now (increased amounts of course) is probably alright. you can always feed more pellets, or larger fish (dead or alive)

Interestingly they really do not require larger feed items, But as Alex said you just have to feed more. If you can find it in Slovakia look for Zeigler Aquastable MO pellets. Also look around for gel feed mixes.

xander: Even me wondering fed frozen pangasius - cuts. Thank you for your reply

Pejelajarto: We do not sell food Zeigler Aquastable MO. It is something specific?

We buy pellets for trout. See picture. Is high in protein. Thanks for the tip.

you can easily check out pics of his gar and incredible set up by searching through his previous threads, no good in derailing this thread.

rostratusgar, are you buying fillets or are you cutting the fish on your own? whichever the case, it's much more nutritious to feed whole fish, inards and all, more filling too.

i would just go with whole fish & pellets.

Richard, i've been told that the "suppliments" in pellets are in fact the nutrition lost from the inards of fish when cut them up or feed shrimp. is that right? if so, would it be advisable to simply feed 100% whole fish?

also regarding feed items, how different are saltwater fish from freshwater as food? im asking this since most of the fish i feed are saltwaterfish.

I hope yall realize Gator Gars get well into the 6-7 foot range, very easily. As for what they eat. They are carniverous top water feeders. In the wild, if it floats and is chewable. they eat it

Whole fish rather than parts is more advisable. I do not see any real difference between feeding salt or freshwater fish with gar. Never had a problem with either and never noticed anything that would prove one being better than the other.

What is pictured looks like the same stuff. That is my preferred feed for captive Gators.

Xander:

Hi I bought frozen pangasius fillets.

Pejelajarto:

So the whole fish with guts is more nutritious and better for GAR? I buy the pellets for trout. Thank you for the information.

Even occurred to me to feed GAR - Engraulis encrasicolus (for us it's called: anchovy - anchovies

These are all small fish. Chefs use it in dishes. See photo:
