I have several large bala sharks. I noticed that one of them has red coloring in gills. Can it be bacterial?
I do 5o percent wc in my 240 gal?
He is still eating normally. But not as active

Check water params and let us know...it sounds and looks like an ammonia issue

Thanks for the quick reply

Ph is about 7.2. Ammonia. Is aprox .35. Nitrates are high. Hard to tell the difference in color on the api master test kit. But seemd closer to 80 than 40. And thats after a 50 percent wc on monday

Yes it would alter ammonia readings only i think. But dosent mean that is the cause if it's been past the 48 hrs. That's a pretty high ammonia reading. So maybe either your filter hasent been cleaned for a long time and there is ammonia leaching sludge in the filter or maybe you need to do more often water changes. how heavily is the tank stocked what's the filtration on it .need to know more info. Your nitrates are really high.
