I’ve seen an absolutely huge ‘goldfish bowl’ in the small local pet shop. I recon it must hold 10 gallons, and is not closed off at the top like most bowls (so has a nice surface area). The only thing stopping me from buying it is the problem with filtration. The idea is that the bowl stays clean and simple visually, so I do not want some big horrible filter hanging on the side (that’s providing a filter could actually hang onto the round sloping sides anyway). While I can’t imagine you can get an under-gravel filter for the dimensions?

Anyone have any suggestions? How have others filtered ‘goldfish bowls’ before?

Thanks.

First of all, you aren't planning to keep goldfish in it, right?

I'm not quite sure how to set up a filter, sorry. I don't know if it will even sit good on a bowl. Maybe there is some specially made kind of filter?

Nawh no goldfish, im looking at making a betta a very happy chap.
If not white cloud mountain minnows are on check.

Ah that’s a bugger, I am looking for some sort of mini under gravel filter at the moment.

Good to hear, that would be wonderful for a betta. Get a crowntail if you can. I know this doesn't sound very right, but you really dont' need a filter for your betta. Make sure the gravel isn't more than half an inch deep, because then a lot of crap will accumulate.
Just make sure to change the water regularly, the betta will do fine.

Hmm what do you think on this Nabbig?

Just to help out in picking anything up floating around, and give a bit of aeration? I know bettas are not fond of surface movement, but i can not go back to completely un-filtered and un-aerated tanks again. I had my fair share of those and very frequent water changes in the past, and 10 gallons would plague my back again.

Hmmm, that looks pretty good! You could give it a go, although I'm not very fond of undergravel filters.

for bowls like that, what they usually have is an undergravel filter with the airlift in the middle of the tank. you could use the round dirt magnet sponge filter and that would be fine.

they have little 1 gal tanks and stuff that have wee UG's and a bubbler to pump it. you could buy that and do something with the tank, lol
