I was moving gravel around when I saw a large, brown worm. It was the color of an earthworm, without obvious segmentation. The ends were slightly pointed and it was extremely stretchy; when I first unearthed it it was about 1.5 inches and then it retracted to about half an inch. It was deep inside the gravel; I've never seen it in open water or on the glass.

The intentional tank inhabitants are endlers and MTS. I've had some weird snails since buying dwarf sag from AquaBid, so maybe it came in on them? I've also been overfeeding the past week since they had fry.

Any ideas? Google pics of planaria don't look like it. Everyone seems healthy, so it's more curiosity than concern.

poor water conditions caused this, soon your fish will probably get sick

to kill the worm add aquarium salt and water ager

As soon as I found the worm, it went outside in a trash can. Should I expect more?

I am surprised that you say it's poor water quality. My levels have been stable (at or near zero) for months and they get a 25% water change every Monday. Could one week of slight overfeeding to protect the fry really cause an infestation?

Nah, i think your fine for now. If you see more popping up then you should start the salt.

i think ive had the same issue... do they kinda look like flatworms?? I got a bunch in a small tank once, they were laying eggs all over the bottoms of my various decorations... you should check for eggs if you saw a worm

stewnew, I didn't see the shovel-shaped end that I'm finding in Google photos, but it's possible. There are so many different types.

Thanks for the warning. I tore up the gravel looking for more worms, but I didn't think to look for eggs.

Yeah, your description sounded exactly like what i saw except i saw dozens of them... the worms were almost impossible to pick out of the tank too..
they didnt look like eggs, they were very flat and looked almost like seeds, but when i found them there were some at different stages of development and when i broke them open i found baby worms... just saying cause youd rather find them like this than as full grown worms
i emptied my tank (it was only 10 G so no big deal, how big is your tank?), and washed it out several times with super hot water (which worked to kill the worms quickly) never saw them again

im sure a loach of some sort will help

Endlers love small live foods. You're lucky to have them.
