I'm in the planning stages of a 7'x4'x2' glass tank. Can I get away with using 1/2 plate glass? Supported along the bottom and up top. Just looking for a little input, thanks in advance.
I know my old 150g used half inch glass and it was taller. Id say you would be ok if you build and brace properly. Ofcourse thicker glass would be safer since you might not build as well as a factory can
you can still scratch glass. i have one that is scratched. it is harder to do though. i jjust look at in terms of having to move it. the tank you have planned right now with 5/8" glass will weigh over 600lbs empty. an acrylic tank of the exact same thickness and size weighs about 285lbs. thats a huge difference.
The moving it part shouldn't be an issue as I'm building a brand new house currently and plan on being there for a good long while. I've since changed my dimensions to 7x5x2, I remember watching uaru joey build his 6x6 out of old tanks which if I recall were 1/2" glass sheets. Would much rather be safe than sorry, just looking for some opinions.
