Hey guys, I am considering picking up a pair of 12" breeding red devils to add into the 300 gallon. Currently all I have in there is Argus, who is pushing 17". The tank has a fair bit of (low) cover and some artificial plants -- will the devils be able to hold their own? Will they team up and hand Argus his butt? I know that SOME aspects of fishkeeping are trial and error, but I don't have a separate tank to fall back on in case this winds up being an ERROR!

What're your thoughts?

Red devils r ruthless by themselves let alone a breeding pair IMO one of the most aggressive cichlids

I was at a local reef shop the other day and he has a very nice red devil female and i was advised to not get her for my pond because he said she would most likely kill most things in my pond and even my very large rays so i couldnt imagine what a breeding pair would do.

There not named Red-Devils for nothing, the name says it all......Beware

Yeah, I'll avoid them, thanks guys. It's easy to be a fool when you see something large other than oscars and pacu show up on craigslist. It is kinda frustrating waiting for this trio of pbass to get large enough to go to the big tank! I just need to be more patient. 2, maybe 3 more months, then I might start looking for some NON-FARMIE pbass to put into my growout tank!

yeah id stay away from a breeding pair maybe a small male or female would be fine but once that male has eggs or fry to protect all hell will break loose he'll tear up plants dig huge holes bite the glass at everything that moves and will either kill or push everything into one corner of the tank, in my opinion easily the most aggressive cichlid when breeding.
