im not sure what type of cichlid it was cuz it coulda been highly streesed especially in this tank at petco im talkin the lil like 10 gallon if even but it was like a 6-7 inch massive cichlid round bodied looked almost full grown for adoption. i asked the lady workin what tpye of fish it was she said pike cichlid, i said o really :screwy: duh. but i didnt say duh but asked what species of pike cichlid it was and she had no clue. this is in iowa so if any of u pike lovers want a pike cichlid and are near the cedar rapids area and want a almost full grown pike im pretty sure its for free if it said up for adoption on the tank. i didnt have a camera on me so i couldnt take any pictures ill look up more sites to search for it.

what was the color pattern like. im guessing it was a firemouth or a convict

no it was definatly a pike cichlid and ive seen the picture somewhere i can definatly tell a pike cichlid from any other type of cichlid. umm it was a darker green with one horizontal stripe runnin from tail to mouth and it had like 6 stripes on the top half of the body up to the dorsal fin i didnt get a super good look at it but just by the body shape and the finnage its definatly a fat lil pike cichlid but the colors could just be dark due to stress o and the stripes were black/ or dark dark green

Well, my bet is that it is a saxatilis-type pike, not likely to be cincta(although not impossible). Did it have any spangling, humeral blotch(was it occelated), caudal spot(was this occellated), any dorsal markings, did it have a postorbital stripe(C. frenata), any black, brown, or red spotting along the body? Better yet go get a picture. Remember when looking at pics online, look at pics of both male and female. They can vary quite abit between the sexes.
