Large convect ciclids in with my rays.?

i have heard its NO NO to keep convect ciclids in with rays. I can get t o large ones that look awsome super cheap and are big enough that my rays wont be able to eat them.Has anybody put them in with rays and seen how they do. I m having a hard time finding other fish to go in my tank that the rays wont eat or that wont pick on them.

I wouldn't do it.
When the convicts try and breed they will get hyper agro and have a go at the Rays.

I had some placid geos with my hystrix, but 2 paired up and didn't want the Rays near their corner. So I eventually got rid of them.
