i have a 55 gallon (in my opinion the worst size tank) its a hardscape with driftwood, rocks, and nautral lighing currently stocked wiyh 6 emerald corydoras , im looking for a large south american fish (around 5-6 inches) i really like the look of silver dollars and that body shape but have read that a 55 is most likely to small. This my first post so please forgive me of any mistakes.

Maybe a small acara species will work :)

SDs get huge for a 6-7" fish

Go native with creek chubs, bluntnose minnows, orangespotted sunfish and bluenose shiners.

South American leaf fish or threadfin acara

The thing about the smaller SA species, I find they do better with more of their own kind. A 1m3f group of something like a bolivian ram, keyhole cichlid, or cupido, would work well imo.
If you just want a lone fish, I might recommend a CA cichlid like a panamensis male. Though it wouldn't be geographically correct with the cory cats, not sure if you care about that. Also, if your water is hard or soft, high or lower pH, will matter. SA cichlids like softer water, lower pH. Although, most of these fish are pretty adaptable within a reasonable range.
