I've recently gotten back into fish after buying my first house and I set up my only remaining tank. A 37 gallon which is a 20 long footprint but extra high for those not familer with the size.

It's been set up now for 2 weeks with a few zebra danios to get it started and cycled. TIME FOR FISH!

I would like some suggestions for a large (for this size tank) fish for a show piece. Obviously it won't be any monsters just looking for something cool. Only requirement is the species needs to be community friendly which rules out most cichlids.

AND GO! ;)

Id go with a convict. With the right water paramaters they will get pretty big and fat.

In a non chichlid community tank?

I'm a fan of Gold Gourami's as well as Samurai Gourami (not to echo all of the gourami suggestions above lol).

Ever think about making your centerpiece one of the nicer looking dwarf pleco's?

One cichlid that does fit the bill imo. would be a pair of blue rams... love my guys in my comm tank.. they are the only cichlid I own lol.. But they are colorful and give that "wow" centerpiece look and my pair are constantly moving around the tank investigating but leave the other inhabitants alone unless they invade their "nest" I kept my male single for awhile then decided he needed a girlfriend... I wouldn't consider them "large" but they deffinately are the first fish to catch anyones eye that looks at the tank, and are community friendly.. I keep mine w/ tetras and some barbs, corys.. banjo cats.. and a few grow-outs. the corys do have a few nipped fins but that's because they eat their spawns.
