Firstly, I know the personality of large cichlids varies and its always a bit hit-and-miss, just have to try it to find out for sure etc, so I'm just looking for general opinions, personal experiences...

In a couple of weeks I'll be setting up a ~210g (180cmX75wX60h) tank, it will house my 14" green aro, two dats (13" and 5"), 16" ornate and currently a few medium sized earth eaters. I'm thinking about putting the earth eaters in my clown loach tank, and adding a large male jaguar cichlid to the 210g. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a large one or if I'll have to grow out some juvis, its just an idea I've had as I've always loved jags and they're about the biggest CA cichlid we get here.
I know they can be mean SOBs when breeding, but I've also seen pics of large individuals with various other tankmates. So what do you think, am I asking for trouble or is it worth a shot?

IMO jags are more territorial than all out agressive, if given enough space they're pretty chill. All you can do is try it out and hope for the best, if needed remove him... like you said, theyre temperment is hit or miss :) good luck

i agree, jags aren't really the aggressors from what i noticed.
they can hold their own to pretty much anything, but i've never seen one go on a rampage.

if you house it with fish that won't try and invade then he should be fine!

from what i've seen in a friends tank, they break fights up more by scaring anyone who wants to beef.
i think it will do fine!

I keep a breeding pair male 11" female 8" in a tank with 2 spotted gar 8" a monoc 6" a common pleco 9" and an endli 7" and they do fine very rarely do they show serious aggression towards anything

Give it a shot. It's hit or miss. IMO, Jags are like Oscars with the confidence of a bigger and stronger body, Bigger mouth with stronger jaws and large teeth.

My current 10" Male Jag is a pansy. Great looking fish, looks mean, but absolutely no attitude at all. I'm hoping it will toughen up as it grows larger. It's chilling in a 90 gallon with a small pleco, 4 buenos aires tetras and 3 silver dollars. Doesn't bug em at all. Very peaceful.
