other than the CL, what other large loaches are there that are somewhat obtainable? i would love to get a leptobotia elongata, but doesnt seem like thats possible.

I have never seen any leptobotia elongata, I believe that they are rare and hardly ever seen (if I'm not mistaken). They get huge though, from what I've read.

Largest loach you can see but not find is Leptobotia elongata. Currently the largest often available is clown loach. A few others though smaller are Syncrossus helodes, Yasuhikotakia modesta and Leptobotia pellegrini. You certainly don't want the Syncrossus sp. as these are by far one of the nastiest loaches.;)

just how aggresive are we talking for the Syncrossus helodes? as my lfs actually has some of those, and i havent bought them as i didnt know what they are, but i really like em.
tank is 180g, tankmates are 3 dats, 7 silver dollars, oscar, 2 blood parrots, gibby pleco.

On scale: 5/5

These grow to 12 inches although slow growth rate. They are rather solitary and skirmishes often result in very loud clicking sounds. I have these guys. With elongated snouts, they are also very versatile at picking off invertebrates including Malaysian trumpet snails. Only good tankmates would be barbs as they usually leave dithers alone but may harass other tankmates. They should be fine for mix with skunk loaches, sun loaches (Y. eos) and Y. modesta though.

None of your tankmates will easily survive the harassment by these tiger loaches.

Levi had a truly monster Yo-Yo, it must have been 7-8". Wish we would have gotten pics.

bummer. thanks for the info though. maybe i'll just keep my eye out for some yo-yo's and modesta then, assuming they will co-hab.

Yo Yo loaches are great, very active and get pretty good size. Watch for the modesta, their common name blue botia, sometimes these fish are dyed.
