I Am Currently Working On My New 450 Gallon Tank, And Was Wondering If Anyone Knew Where I Could Find Or Buy Large Pieces Of Driftwood. My Tank Is 8 Feet Long 3 Feet Deep And 2.5 Feet Wide. I Am Looking To Get Around 4 Or 5 Big Pieces Of Driftwood.

I found mine at a local river! Went walking along the bank until I found what I was looking for. As far as doing all the cleaning and soaking, I pressure washed it and called it a day.

Hello fellow Canuck........ I have bought the best looking and largest
pieces of driftwood from "The aFISHionados".
They are located in Winipeg, Manitiba......shipping rates are fairly
cheap......check out the web page and scroll down to
Malaysian driftwood.........the guys name is Spencer Jack...
let me know what you think!!!!! Good luck...

Go looking in a local river, creek, or lake for good peices. I have found several great peices at my cottage.

One thing you have to be very careful with is that if you suspect it was once a type of conifer break a little tip off one end and take a good whiff if it still smells "sappy" leave it be. Coniferous wood can be used as aqaurium wood but you have to make sure it's proper driftwood and throughly leached out. If you have any bogs nearby those are even better becuase of how the highly acid water/soil preserves the wood and chances are most pieces in bogs have lain anaerobic for decades and are very sterile.

looking at your location i'd suspect nearly all the wood to be coniferous.

don't let anyone tell you you can't use conifer wood, the large peice i have in my tank (the egde of which is shown in my display pic; the light brown looking thing) i am 90% sure is white cedar.

I'm fortunate enough that my local lake has a free DW pick-up site. They do all the gathering and all I have to do is sort through the pieces..........
