I just found out I can get my hands on a 275 gallon liquid container one of the plastic ones with the cage around it. I wanted to see if anyone has ever made a tank with one befor

You could have it like a small pond but I don't think it would be strong enough to put a glass panel in, there would be to much flex IMO

Interesting idea tho, I will be following :)

I was thinking doing it cheap and dirty by putting a pice of lexan inside and bolting it in with gasket materal between I just need to see what materials are safe to have in a tank. I was thinking lexan because I can get lexan from my work otherwise I would use acrylic.

That could work...

Not sure if the lexan is safe or not but you will need to buy aquarium safe silicone ( goldseal is really strong pond silicone but I'm not sure it would be available to you ) apart from that if your bolting it to help support it then it mite just work!

been debating this idea myself...it will def. Work if you use the right sealant. Most people use polycarbonate for windows on stock tanks so this is pretty similiar. I also think the lexan you plan to use will work. Keep the window small like 12"x24",24"x24". 3m5200 and bolts will seal the window well. I'd leave the metal cage on, but you can probably get away with cutting out a small section of it if needed.

This is a little off topic but I was looking into one of these as a holding tank when I was taking down my 500. Most the ones I found were already used and had held harsh chemicals. Have you found them new or do you know what liquid it originally had in it?

That's what I was thinking was a smaller pice for the window the stuff I can get is 1/2" so its plenty thick. The plan was to cut some of the top off so I can get in it a bit better for cleaning and getting fish in and out and to remove only the part of the cage that would be in the way of the window.

The tank had liquid protein for a food additive so I was going to clean it out the nice part it has a drain on the bottom already so cleaning should be easy.

From the sounds of it I my make a few of this type of tank if the first one works as planed because I think I can get atleast 3 of the tanks so far.

On a side note filtration any ideas? Maybe a sump or an fx5 some how.

Most IBC storage containers are too thin and too flexible to put a window in. If you do try it, I would recommend rounding the corners of your cutout.

That's why I was sortof thinking of useing actual rubber or gasket materal and use the bolts to seal the together
