Planning my next micropeltes tank, covers, heating and filtration etc for installation in June. What thickness and type of coverglasses is best? I am thinking along the lines of 20/25mm acrylic, far stonger than glass, will not break. My only reservation is weight or lack of it, compared to glass. So I thought about a heavy wooden frame around covers for the additional weight. It's got to sustain the possibility of a 36" micropeltes deciding to have a little jump :WHOA: Any other ideas welcome.:)

lucky europeaners! get to have snakeheads! hmmm!
well i'm not terribly good with conversions but 20-25 mill acrylic sound like plenty, about an inch maybe this thick _________ it sounds like plenty even if it's not glass. a canopy would be good for preventing jumping and makes the tank kinda look cooler. i would recomend it.

Have you considered making a full canopy out of wood? It'll take alot more abuse than glass. You can finish it with latched front access doors so the fish won't have a chance of jumping out. And, you can install the lights mounted to the top so they're more secure from falls than they would be should a large SH rattle a glass top.

why dont you just get normal glass of the same thickness? its much cheaper and much heavier. theres no way that even a 36" snakehead is gonna break it by jumping against it.

My red and Striata both smashed the glass sliders on there tanks the Striata would smash him self against the tank lid as soon as I walked up to the tank with a big worm he would go nuts. I used per specs in the end the same stuff I have on my tropical pond still fits into the runners looks like glass but you can't shatter it like you can with glass. Also if you want lights not a problem.
