I'm using a dozen 300LED light strips on my tank. What I like about this setup is the modular-ness... I keep one plain cool white on for the fish, but turn on the rest when I'm watching the tank to save on power. Also, you can get the exact color spectrum that you want.. for example I'm running 1 blue, 1 red, 1 green to really amplify colors, then 4 cool white and 4 warm white for sheer intensity.
But the AC adapaters that they come with are crap.. they are fire hazards for sure as about 90% have blown.. as in a big pop and a puff of smoke. They run super hot before they do this. I never like leaving the house with these things on.
I bought some serious solid state power supplies from superbrightleds.com... i have no worries now. Though I'm not happy about the fan noise on the 600watt model.. but its a non-issue for me since i run all noisy items 2 rooms away..(water and air pumps and these power supplies)
But they have a whole range of power supplies available. I could have spread the load across several lesser units that wouldn't have been forced air cooled. I'm doing that now for just the single light that I keep on for the fish.
I can take picts tonight if you want
