Waves a little, some of you probably seen me pestering about in the ray thread and if so thanks for the help! But unfortunately need more for my very blonde brain :) I understand fishkeeping, kept fish for 2 years (yes I know a junior in many eyes ;)) though I did experience messy puffers during that time and oddball fishery.. the dream tank is for rays of which I have had many questions..the remaining questions really on the logistics of a monster tank.

Previously the largest I owned was 100-110g (honestly cant remember but around that). It had a FX5 and weekly water changes were done of around.. 30%-50% as pretty vigilant on cleanup and also minimised stocking. For a ray I understand the volume of tank is going to be on minimum a 6-8foot length, 3 foot minimum wide and 2ft tall. (Take it there isnt so much as too many water changes though generally if the stock and filtration are correct then due to larger volume of water ease the changes to a little more than a week?)

The size of the prospect tank scares me more than the delicate fish in question so:

- Filtration for a beast. I have only ever used externals and smaller the largest being the FX5. I have read the sticky on sumps etc but could do with real opinion and guidance on the best filtration on this type of system with best water quality. ALso a system that does not require say 8 externals or some such.

- Water changes - I hear of constant auto water changes but mostly in my area it is metered water so what are the best ways to move the large volumes of water other a bucket/s and siphon. It used to take 10ish or more buckets on the above tank and there must be a smarter way for an indoor tank?

-Heating - hear to spread out or place in the sump, for rays especially to have heater guards?

- It has been recommended acrylic over glass for the size - anyone UK able to recommend places that do complete setups and guidelining on price??

Just some guidance on logistics would be great :)

SO your dimensions you are looking around 360 gallons+. Sump is the way to go with heaters inside. I dont do a constant drip on my tank but it is set up to do 70g a night. I built it using lawn sprinker valves and timers and a regular sump pump float switch. from Home Depot. The valve opens up and dumps 70g of fresh water in every evening and when the water level raises in the sump, the float is triggerered ans a small water pump turns on pumping water out into my lawn. It sounds complicated but really simple actually. I'm not a ray expert but do have a few. As far as glass or acrylic I cant give you an answer. My big tank is acrylic and still cant make up my mind wether I like it or hate it. It scratches very easily but weighs almost the same as my glass 300g weighed. They supposedly hold in heat better too compared to glass. If you plan on purchasing new the one thing I can recommend is have it set up with overflows so you can run a big sump on it
