Large tank setups and filter questions??

180 GALLON TANK (Setup Costs and requirments- looking for help)

What about a filter that is run into the bottom of the tank. Meaning gettign the glass drilled and fitted so that you are not using some crazy hang on filters and canister filters that have ugly tubes running into the tank???

What type of filters are typically used for tanks that are 180 gallons or larger? What kind and how are they typicaly set up?

Jasno -- I think you are talking about a pre-drilled sump setup (unless you're very experienced, it's not recommended to drill your own tank), often used in larger tanks, esp. SW. Look at this article.

thats why java moss was invented - great coverup for tubes..... as were plants!

actually, all my tanks have no filters - they're all filtered by plants. Only tank that has a filter is the one with no plants in it.

But drilling the bottom of the tank, is a painstaking process (seen it done - it ain't pretty)

as for sumps - I know oceanic and all glass make tanks that are reef ready - all predrilled holes (incl. sump if i remember)

cool now that I think abotu it you are right they do have reef ready tanks out there.

This is a long time off for when I have my own house but it is somehting I want to do.,
