LARGE tank waterchanges?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I change out depending on amount of bioload. Some of my largest tanks (at home - not work tanks) I change a few times a year, since the load isn't there.

I do 50-80% every week on every tank. My bioload IS there.

I change 30% every second day on my 320g ray and aro tank, 20% per week on the 200, 165 and 120g tanks. Now that it is summer, I run a hose from the freshwater tanks out through one of my doors. Pythons waste a lot of water when they are draining a tank. I use a python to fill the tanks.

Be careful with that. I've been known to get to involved and water ends up on the floor.:D

I purchased a thick-walled, 95 gallon rubbish container from Home Depot. I placed a 350 gph circulating pump and 500 watt heater inside. I store this container outside. A day in advance, I wheel this into the garage, fill it, dechlorinate, and start the heater and pump. The following day, I use a separate pump to pump this conditioned water into the tank, thus completing the water change. During the Summer, when the municipal water temperature is routinely 76-78F, I wheel it in about an hour in advance, fill it, dechlorinate and circulate for at least 30 minutes before transfer.

i put the outlet to my fx5 right out a window, and turn it on. drains my 50-75% in a few minutes.

to refill, i either do by a python, or in the warmer summer months, i use the garden hose, since he water coming out is already around 70, and just add a bit of warmer water from the python so i dont have a big temp swing

^^

I was about to post something about that. It takes me about 30 minutes to change 50% on my 75, with a half-inch hose. (same as a python, right?)

On a bigger tank, using really big hosing obviously is going to be much easier. Just make sure you don't suck any fish out :D

Siphon and buckets. Water changes at 40-50% in all tanks twice a week.
