One of my largest concerns about getting large tank 200+, is that it springs a leak. has anyone ever had this happen for no apparent reason? I know that when setting up such a large tank, you need to have it exactly level. But can the sheer water pressure on the sides cause the seems to start leaking?

Also is there any maintenance that should be performed accasionally inorder to ensure the seems don't leak.

leaving a tank for a long length of time without any water in it could dry out and perish the silicone but i think we are talking a long time. the way tanks are made, the glass thickness is calculated and the struts at the top of the tank are strong enough to keep everything in place. although it happens id think you'd be very unlucky if your tank did burst open on its own.

Yea, i had that happen once, day after new years, hung over big time, crashed on the couch, woke up to running water, a whole silicone seem had broke, grabbed the trash can, dumped it on my living room floor, caught some of the water, it came out super fast, whata mess

it was just like danny said, tank had sat for a while and the silicone just gave up, if you buy a used tank, inspect the silicone and just redo the silicone as a little piece of mind if it looks to be looseneing or contracting at all

i will also add that new silicone wont seal to old. it has to be removed.
