I have a 210 gallon glass tank with 3 glass tops completely closing the top of the tank, but I have a 50 gallon sump underneath (Marineland Model 4 Acrylic).

I have noticed that the basement isn't as cool since installed this about a month ago and it is definitely more humid. I ordered a Frigidaire 50 pint dehumidifier and I have two small windows down there that I am going to try and blow air out for now until I get the dehumidifier in the mail.

Anybody have any suggestions on similar situations and cope with this problem? I want to enclose my sump, but I am going to have to make a custom top for it to enclose it. I will probably make a template out of cardboard and have an acrylic piece cut to fit over it. I will have to have two notches in it though for the two return pipes.

Any temporary ways that I can seal the top of the sump until I get something made?

sump top would be my suggestion. for me I don't mind the humidity as A/C systems tend to take outside humidity out so the tanks add it back into the loop.

but if your area alrady has a high amount I can see waterspots being a major issue on ceilings. So the top on the sump would be the best way to prevent that, the dehumidifier would only take out a portion.

yea go get some insulation foam that blue stuff, im a college student so i wasn't able to purchase glasstops or covers for my tanks so i just go buy a big peice of that blue foam (Lowes, Home Depot) and cut it to size to cover the top cheap. inexpensive, and waterproof!

Lids and dehumidifiers are the way to go!
