Large Tanks

Probably pointless question this as most of you don't seem to live here al though i know some do.

Where can you get a very large tank. what i mean is 200 gallon +. The main manufacturers (the one's that have not gone bust yet) seem to stop at around 125 mark.
I gather then it's a custom made job?

Any idea.

PS...I know it is a similar thread to another but a bit more local

You may have to look into custom setups for bigger than 200 gals. I know you can get 200 gallon tanks in london as there are a few members I know from there that have.

A Large tank.. sometimes "Custom" does not have to be that difficult... it does present chalenges.

Check out the DYI sections on building your own, primarily so you know what is involved.

I Live in Sunny Asia and things sometimes can be more convienient/ easy...

I also have a Construction background so that helps.

Go look at building sites , or in the yellow pages ( or internet) for Glass supliers / Glaziers in your area.
Go and stike up a conversation, try and make a contact.. you may find
they will sell you off cut glass in the sizes required to construct your tank for a considerable savings!!

Then find a Glazing shop or posibly the same one you bought the glass from who will assemble the tank for you.

After all a fish tank is just glass cut and stuck together with structarl silicone...


OK check out the DYI so you can see the reinforcement needed, go look at big tanks and see how they are built... the runners down the sides and ends, the cross braces accross the top of the tank.. you can get an idea of what you need your design to consider..

IF the shop will co operate, you may find that having it built is cheaper than you can buy one ready made or " Custom Made" from an Aquarioum specialiist.

I have done ok on assemblying tanks, but I cannot cut glass... I just do not / have not learned the " touch" for it.. although people that do it regurly make it look as simple as drinking a glass of water..

Well just my thoughts.. I seem to find as soon as a " Label.. FOR AQUARIOUM" goes on something the price goes WAY up.

Think about it.. I can maybe pull up some designs.

one of my friends worked for juwel, he has made me 2 tanks 200gal each. i can give you his email address if you want, my tanks were custom made and delivered to me. it will be pricey, but well worth it. there is a waiting list, maybe a couple of months long. if you want his details, pm me.

Some American manufacturers make tanks in the 265-300 gallon range, but I don't know about England. I've also heard of manufacturers doing custom jobs, but it seems like most people on here that have huge tanks make them themselves.
