Hi all

I am moving and going to be upgrading my tank to a roughly 120 gallon (60" x 18 " x 24" or 26").

Anyways, I have always read that you should place something between the aquarium and stand with larger tank. Is this just in the area where the base does not meet the stand? And what do you use?

Thanks!

Is this glass or acrylic? Glass just needs the perimeter of the tank where the plastic trim is. If glass, make sure you find out from the manufacturer if you are allowed to place something under the trim since it might void the warranty if you use the wrong material. You can use yoga mats or 1/4" wall foam for acrylic.

When leveling the water in the tank, you need to level under the stand, do not shim in between the tank and the stand.

It is glass. So this just goes under the black plastic trim? But not between the glass bottom and stand.

It is just to ensure it remains level I guess?

The plastic trim raises the glass above a complete top cover, so the downward pressure points on a glass tank will be along the plastic trim. You can find aquarium stands made specifically for glass tanks, which only have a top frame all around and no single sheet of plywood covering the top.

Also, be aware that the top plastic trim may not be completely level, so look at the waterline and how far it is from the top of the glass (not plastic trim) all around to determine if the tank is level.

Under the contact points. The idea is to avoid any point loading from slight warps or bumps in the stand, that's all it does.
