Hey guys, I know that feeder fish aren't the best diet for LMB. So i'm interested in what exactly is. Crayfish? Worms? Any advice would be awesome! Thanks!

Crays, worms, and shiners, all would be much more natural diet if you have a fishing place that has them close.

If you want a fat, happy LMB, feed them rainbow trout. That's what they eat in the wild in my neck of the woods, and they get BIG!

Thanks for both of your answers! Crayfish are pretty easy for me to catch (I see you're from NH, i'm not sure if you're familiar with Spot pond in Mass, right off 93 exit 34, but the crayfish are everywhere in there) as far as the shiners go, I assume buying them from the pet sore or bait shop would still be considered feeder fish, so I should catch them in the wild? How exactly do you catch a fish that small? You'd think that'd be easy. As for feeding them trout, they do eat the trout here as well, but the problem is getting trout small enough that they'll actually eat.

4 Large shrimp or prawns
4 oz. Fresh fish
1 oz pellets (MASSIVORE)1.8fish-pellet
12-24 insects (crickets, worms, ect.)
4 garlic cloves (crushed)
1 jar banana baby food (or other fruit)
1 jar carrots baby food (or other veggie)
1 jar peas baby food (or other veggie)
1 envelope of unflavored gelatin
Vulti-vitamin crushed
A little water (add just enough water to help the blender along)
Mix in blender or food processor
Freeze and cut to size or spread over a commercial light diffuser on a cookie sheet for perfect 1/2" squares*
My LMB has gone from 3.5" to 11" over the summer.

That sounds awesome, but I don't think i'd want to grind crickets and worms up in my blender. if I happen upon another blender, I may just give that a shot though!

So I went out and caught some crayfish today, got one nice big one to help clean up the tank, untill it becomes food. And a few small-medium sized ones that my bass gobbled right up. They're not taking the worms though, but i'll try them again next time they're hungry.
