Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a largemouth bass in a 200 gal tank currently. He was recently moved from his old tank about a week ago, to the bigger size tank. In his old tank he would eat voraciously, shrimp, fish fillets, crayfish, anything. So far in his new tank he's been picky and only eaten a few shiners and nightcrawlers. He also has the beginnings of hole in the head disease which I am treating him for. Is the lack of appetite most likely from stress or something more serious?

I'd say just from the move, but i've never kept LMB's. If he's eating then that's a good thing/a start.

Out of interest - do you have him with anything else? Moving to the US next year and want to do a natives tank :) Would love to see a photo.

Sounds like stress to me.

While not conclusive, but hith appears to stem from water quality issue. Are you doing adequate water changes? How big is your lmb?

He's about 7-8 inches right now, I just moved him so the water is fine as of now. I added some salt hopefully to prevent further bacteria from growing on the wounds. He's been killing the minnows I put in as feeders but not eating them. He also ate half a crayfish yesterday.

I don't have any pictures as of now, but I'll try to upload a few. He's by himself, aside from the school of minnows I have in there as feeders.

Do you raise the bait/minnows yourself? I ask because most baitfish will carry disease from being crowded and poorly kept.do you have enough filtration on the new tank? I would also try to get him to take pellets as a staple diet, for better nutritional content

Yes, they have no diseases or parasites. I'm not 100% percent sure, but I'm planning on adding another filter soon. He flat out refuses to eat any pellets so my best bet would be to stuff pellets into frozen fish/worms.

I would think live food would be the best way to get it to feed. Movement seems to trigger feeding even when they're not really hungry in a lot of natives over here in Aus.
