SO currently, I have a gar that is 4 inches in length. His age is estimated to be around 1-3 months as he was bought at the local aquarist store yesterday and arrived there late July. The guy had it for 3 weeks so the fish was most likely born on late June, but could be as late as early July. Anyways, as of this post, I've had him for a day and he's eaten 2 minnows that were both around 1 1/0 of an inch long, one yesterday and one today. He has also killed 2 feeders yesterday and 1 feeder today. Anyways, my question is, should I feed him smaller fishes like tetras? Or should I stick to the large prey items? I believe he can only consume one of these large rosy reds as they are 1/4 of his length. Would feeding smaller prey be more beneficial, or larger prey?
