Ian Welch and the Fishsiam Ltd Thailand team has just landed the largest freshwater fish ever landed on rod and line.
The monster Giant freshwater stingray was caught from the Maeklong River after a 90 minute battle whilst filming a documentary with National Geographic explorer Dr.Zeb Hogan.
The Giant freshwater stingray was observed to be pregnant and was released without being weighed.
Scientists at the site have estimated the fish to weigh between 265-350kg's making it the largest freshwater fish ever caught on rod and line!

I have seen that picture before. I wonder how many gallons your tank should be to house that monster :nilly:

Seen that photo before, but still thing "wowzers" every time I do!

These Monster freshwater stingrays have minute eyes located just in front of the spiracle.
The muddy waters that these fish inhabit coupled with the relatively small size of the eyes causes the Giant freshwater stingray to hunt prey using finely tuned electro receptors called Ampullae of Lorenzi which are located at the front of the fish in the area of the rostrum/snout.
These sensors which are similar to that of a shark allow the fish to actively feed on all manner of live and dead prey even when buried in the muddy substrate.
