an old post but none the less I must add...the Venezuela Spp..is by far the largest known pike cichlid species..I had a 14 incher that maxed out at 20 ish inches (with a ruler) and was viewed on another fish keeping site that I will not mention here...as proof..with a measuring tape.. I purchased him (@ 14 inches) locally from a guy here in queens who got him at petland @ 3 inches..he was roughly about 3 yrs old at the time, kept him in my 900 gal for 4 years where he grew an additional 6 inches..he was as thick as my forearm and could eat fish almost his size, he died during the blackout of 2006 when I lost all my electricity and got stuck in the city overnight..til this day I've yet to see such a beast in this hobby, pure evil..with a greedy appetite surpassing most fish..I kid you not when I say he could bang out 100 feeder gold fish in less then 10 minutes, maybe less..he once ate a 10 inch wolf fish and chased a massive red devil at least 11 out of the tank, literally..I found the red devil on the floor..He also killed a fairly large redline snakehead (channa micropeltes) instantly when my plexi-glass divider gave in (because of him) the channa was 14 inches..the pike was also a finger chaser and flared his gills often..he was just NASTY...PERIOD..most insane fish ever I've thus encountered in the hobby.also when i looked into his mouth upon his death i saw rows of some viscous teeth..what a beast..thanks for reading..ps..currently I have an 11 inch male..i'll keep you posted..
