largest tank on second floor

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im not sure but i think your supposed to have a contractor come in and tell you how much weight the floor can support , depends on how well the house was built..

Yeah it has a lot to do with the floors materials.
as said above consult a contractor.
But i have heard some people saying they have 180Gal tanks and its fine.

depends what your building is made of. i'd obviously suggest getting someone to look at it. otherwise, if its hard against an outside wall, or a load bearing wall, and across the joists, not in the same direction, you should be fine with a 180. more than that is getting a lot though

Well I have a 240 right now in my townhouse. I wouldn't consider it the second floor where it's located, It's kinda in between. In the room where it's at theres no other rooms below it and the ground is like 8-10 feet below it or maybe less, it's hard to tell. So far so good, I estimate my tank to be around 2300lbs. This house is less than 5 years old, so it is realitively new. I was wondering if I could go bigger, but it looks like I am pushing it right now. Guess I'll have to wait till I move to get something bigger.

i have seen a 240gal once and the floor was bowed lol.. it had a 125 not 3 feet away from it too.

I have a 55gal and a 29gal on the second floor. I put them on the one main beam running across through the floor. Try to see if there is one big beam going arcoss or anywhere in that floor. I have had them together up for 4-5 months with no problems.
