First a little history....

300 gallon tank consisted of 6 Marble Motoros, 4 Odoes (around a foot), 2 Cynopotomus (8 in), and 3 Dorado (6-8in). All was well, and tank stayed this way for a few weeks. I recieved 4 Juvie Dorado I put in a 75 to grow out.

Odoes got moved to the pond as I have some other Characins I'm growing out and wanted to put them all in the 300... Well within 5 days 2 Odoe jumped the pond and died. So I put the remaining 2 back in the 300. The biggest Dorado quickly showed them who was boss. He got moved downstairs.

Well my prego Marble popped and I wanted to use the 75 for the pups.

So I attempted to put the 4 small Dorado in the 300. Was going great at first. They quickly joined the 2 6in Dorado. It was truley one of the most impressive sights I've ever seen. A tight shoal of 6 Dorado. I almost got dizzy watching them pace the tank.

Well, it turns out Cynopotomus are a LOT more aggressive then they lead on. No wonder they sem to work well with Dorado of SIMILAR size. While the Odoes caught some tattered fins and such from the Dorado, the Cynos have never been touched. Maybe cause the Dorado know better ...

After only 15 minutes 1 Cyno seperated the smallest Dorado from the shoal. The other nailed it. This is the result...... Needless to say the juvies went right back to the 75 with salt and elevated heat. I'm not gonna elaborate on how fun it is catching 4 inch Dorado in a 300.... :irked:

As of this morning he was doing fine.

Vid of them after the move back..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcMDa6gzMew

Cynopotomus definetly belong in the classification of Payara.... Very easy going until they decide otherwise..... And when they do, they have the tools to make life uncomfortable or over for the advesary.

Cynos are predatory the dorados are small enough to be prey so they decided to try & eat them had you not been there they would have. Best in the dorado keeping eperience as 7 of these bruisers will need more then 300 gal.

DB thats an awesome tank and I hope you show more pics of your stock. The cynopotamus really show nicely, what type of sand do you have in there?

300 gallon is a "growout" tank. :D When they outgrow that they may make a stop in the 750 depending how they do with tankmates or they will head straight to the ray pond..... But until they are a good foot I don't trust my adult rays with them.

I have not had a whole lot of luck finding info on Cynopotomus. If you have any links to any info it would be really appreciated!!!

In MY experience they seemed pretty mellow and never gave the 6 inchers any sort of trouble whatsoever. Maybe cause they were always following an 8 incher. Figured it may work and may not, hence the reason there was someone watching the tank. Just figured some people here might enjoy the experience, as I really enjoy reading about others' experience....

I should be pretty close to maximum capacity on my livestock.... So pending everything holds together over the course of the next half year or so I'll be making some upgrades in photography/video equipment, and some serious filtration.... So rest assured you'll see more....

I KNOW if I was thinking about moving some fish around that were similar to what I just moved, and I saw a thread like this, it may make my decision making a whole lot easier..... If even one person finds it helpfull then it was worth it..... I'm just tired of wondering, and think that threads like this might prove helpfull in the future for recalling past experiences.

Sand is Estes.... The only sand I'm willing to trust my Marbles on. ;)

You have an amazing characin collection :)

You should see what's in the 90 gallon growout.... :WHOA:

Hoping everything will mix well.... IF it does by next summer the 750 will be a VERY impressive collection of Characins.
