I started a thread on a very large piece of driftwood I just bought . I have a gut feeling that this isn't aquarium safe. Like stated before any driftwood I've purchased has been previously used before and I've had no worries or issues. Being that I'm not experienced in wood, I'm not sure what kind of driftwood this is. I have several small pieces that I've cut off while trimming it. Is there anyone that can definitely verify this is safe or not if I mailed them samples? If so plz pm me and I will mail it out tomorrow.

Go pick up a large trash can at home depot. Fill it with water and put some of the wood in there and leave it for a week or 2. Then test the water. it should tell you if its inert or not.

I agree with putting it in a water filled container.
You will find out how buoyant it is, or how long it will take to sink.
For some longs, I soak some pieces of wood for an entire season in my rain barrels before adding to a tank.

And you could add a sacrificial fish, to see if it is toxic, if the fish dies quickly you know.
You will also find out if it leaches tannins or not.
I like them, some don't
