What do you recommend as the filter media? I have ceramic O's and I just bought some fresh carbon new carbon (since I figured the guy I bought this from probably had some old carbon) and I just rinsed out the foam filter media, since its just mechanical I figured it could be used again, but there was a thin sheet of white filter fiber on top that looks horrific, I cut some off this big sheet I have and put it on there.
Is there anything else Is hould be doing?
Also, do canister filters ever cycle, I would say yeah, but does it take them much longer to cycle than power filters? There isn't as much air in the canister filter so I figured it would take longer for beneficial bacteria to build up.

It took me nearly 30 minutes just to replace the carbon in my canister filter, I keep getting the carpet soaked because I keep forgetting to either unplug it or put on the quick release or something stupid. I hope I will get used to it soon, I feel like a moron.
