I though that lateral line erosion was an early symptom of HITH yet I've noticed that many Discus and Angels display a distinct lateral line indentation. I have also noticed that this indentation is not prevelent in other cichlids. Because the indentation is not always noticeable on every discus/angel does it mean the ones who display this "marking" are more easily suseptable to HITH or this this just a trait that these two species sometimes possess?

i believe its just a trait
HITH or LLE is maily caused by either bad water, or malnutrition, not how the lateral line indentation looks
i've had discus with very bold and noticeable lateral lines, and some that were almost not there, lol
i dont know if you have some and thats why your asking..if so..
just keep your water quality good, and feed them a mixed diet and you'll be fine
