Anybody on here have any currently, or have any past experience with these? I don't expect them to be much different in behavior, growth, or care than any other Lates, but when I'm searching on here and WW (or even general internet search engines) I can't find jack on this fish. Is it rare/hard to come by, or just not common because nobody wants it? This fish came up in the wild specimens available from Lake Tanganyika when I was putting an order together last week, so I put one in request for myself.
I guess all I'm hoping is to see some pics from people who've kept this fish before, since I've come up empty-handed on my own. Also, I am worried that I may not have my 240g aquarium set up in time to accommodate it's growth, but I've got a few tanks I can move it around to or store it in until then if need be. Looking forward to some responses.

Out of the ones you get they may be either L. mariae, angustifrons or microlepis. They are all pretty much monsterfish with an appetite to match, sometimes aggressive, but nothing too serious, will eat anything small enough to swallow. they're pretty rare in the hobby, and some sport real nice colors. Most of the wild ones from Tanganika are difficult to keep initially, they come in real emaciated and fungused, if treated well, some will live and grow real fast. One of my favorite groups of fish. You could do a search here I should have some old pictures of it, and or in Rare fish from Rare fish in the Photo Lounge, hope that helps. I currently have mariae, angustifrons, and some other lates in stock.

Cool info, thanks for the reply. I believe that all Lates may be restricted within my state, so I'm not able to stock any at my store, but I may still be able to obtain one for personal keeping. That's what I'm hoping for, at least =D Anyhow, I had checked some of your threads and pictures posted, as I simply searched the general term "Lates" on the forum, and came up with plenty pics of other species, but I don't recall seeing any that were 100% confirmed as angustifrons. I'll double check though, thanks again.

Got this fish in tonight and he's definitely size enough to eat (or try to eat) most of my small Distichodus - so he's temporarily housed in JESToner's Bichir tank. Looks like I'm gonna try to get another tank set up soon to be a short-term home for this guy and some other fish to keep him company (multiple Lates of the same species get along?). Will post pics soon.

yes, they might chase each other around a bit, but nothing too serious.

Hmm...well, post a picture of yours and I'll tell you what you have. The angustifrons have a round tail I believe, and mariae have a square tail. I also have some calcarifer, japonicus, and niloticus in my tanks too :) I love them!
