Im wondering if its only mines. But my Armatus are still very shy and skittish. I remember from last years batch they weren't as shy. When i throw in feeders they will never eat in front of me. I would have to turn off lights and then sit very still from a distance then i would see them eat. Tank is in my living room with a lot of foot traffic so they should be used to it by now.

Tankmates?

This made a huge difference for me. Last years batch were pretty much raised by themselves and kept in a quiet dim part of the house. Not a lot of attention. This years batch have always had other fish in with them and always something bigger. They don't seem near as skittish. If I stuck a net in last year's tank they'd go nuts, this years seem much more casual. Last years had the light off most of the time. This years have the light on most of the time and when I do turn it off moonlights are on. Mine have to eat fast or the Odoes eat everything. I think the fact they constantly watch the Aro and Odoes eating before them makes them more feed more aggressively.

Just wait. They're gaurenteed to grow out of the shyness.

when i first got my Army he was small (3") skittish and scared. Now he's 8+" and aggressive. He's attacked a few tankmates eats in front of me. Now he's finally alone in a 90g and ready to start the "weening off feeder" process

Dragon Hunter... mine are still skittish and very shy! If they get spooked... watch out! They're like missiles in the tank!

BUT.... I have noticed they've begun eating while I'm around when I ONLY put in feeders at the time of feedings. No more constant supply of food! Next process is to get them in a bigger tank and to ween them off live!

mine's not shy. stares me down and if starved for just a day, will snatch the food on top once it hits the water. cruises the tank around day and night. he's not even bothered by 3 16" black arows.

the other one that i just got a few weeks ago came in shy, wouldnt even eat when the lights are on and people are around. he's not like that anymore and im beginning to train him to accept non-live.

i would agree with adding tankmates and keeping the tank in high traffic areas. also, i took out the decors so it couldnt hide and get used to people and movements outside the tank. i also kept the lights on most of the time, turn it off for a few hours then back on so theyll get used to the ON and OFF lights thing..
