Today I removed the divider and so far so good! Though he still has his pre-spawning coloration.
He just keeps beckoning her over to his flat rock and vibrating all over the place,, but no destructive aggression, so far.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, there are one or two fry in this tank that are 30 days older than the rest.
I happen to catch the largest one eating one of his smaller tank mates, tail first!
Why eat pellets when fresh meat abounds?
Despite the poor, shaky quality, it's a pretty cool capture:
