So my plans for my new tank have gone sideways yet again, but fear not. I will be moving up in size shortly. I have had some other issues where the money was needed more urgently so they are only slightly delayed.

But over the long weekend I picked up this beauty.

A full oak stand for my 180 gallon WITH canopy!!! Now I am not sure if I am the only one out there with this issue, but finding a stand for 72 x 24 is a B!TCH! And finding a stand with a canopy is even HARDER. Well it is do-able, but be prepared to pay an arm and a leg. (the stands I found were all in excess of 2000.00)

So imagine my surprise when after scouring kijiji for the past 5 months I stumbled upon this! The guy was selling his 225 with the stand for 700 bucks! Now after some negotiating and coaxing I managed to get him to sell me JUST the stand, but in trade I would give him my metal tube frame stand which I hated due to the boring unfinished look, especially since this is the main focal point in my living room.

I got him down to 300 bucks with the trade, and then I had to figure out the move. This was more of a headache then I thought, as I would have to time it all carefully as he would need my stand asap. He lived an hour and a half away, but he agreed to drop it off since he already had it loaded in his truck and I would foot the bill for gas. (50 bucks)

I bought some tubs from walmart, kept as much of my original water as possible (almost 150 gallons) and did the move as last min as possible as to not kill and BB and have my tank cycle again.

Alas, the finished product! The stand is solid oak with a nice cherry finish, which I will be stripping down and painting black, but in due time. What do you guys think of the stand? I think it finishes off the tank nicely and adds that last touch to make it look that much more "complete" I always HATED seeing my filters underneath and my lights hanging from the ceiling by chains. Now it is all tucked away and enclosed nicely. All my fish are doing well, and hopefully they are enjoying their new digs as much as I am!

I live in an apartment building. I don't have the room or tools to build one, and buying one that I know will hold my tank helps me sleep a lot better at night then trying to build one myself that will potentially collapse and kill everything.

I built a table in woodshop in grade 10 roughly 15 years ago, that took me half a year, and it came out looking pretty crappy. I'm sure my wood working skills havent gotten better with age.

Hmm yea true..what i meant by build one is get a carpenter
