Kind of jumping the gun with starting a breeding project and never even having kept rays, no? Let alone knowing how to sex them?

Beat me to it. I am not trying to discourage you, but keep that enthusiasm and find out all of the information you need to before starting.

If you do end up going through with it, good luck.

By the way, the claspers are small organs that protrude distally from the rear surface of the pelvic fins; they are the little pointy things on the back of the little "feet" rays tend to walk around with when they are being too lazy to swim.

i am just starting to read up on them now and will not be getting them for another few months as the tank will have to be cycled and i will have to know more on them too!! i have kept show quality discus before that had to have immaculate water conditions and so do rays, a friend told me i should be ok keeping them as i have kept tropicals for more than 10 years and coldwater fish 7 years on that so i am not a novice with an idea!! lol thanks for the help guys any tips on breeding and keeping rays would be good if you could post them!! thanks

K.I.S.S method.... large area + pristine water + good food = happy rays... happy rays can breed for you...

Considering 'Potamotrygon Laticeps' rays were no longer considered a nominal species about 20 years ago you might do some independent research before asking specific questions...

If its a ray labeled 'Laticeps' from Peru, it's just a brown Peru ray... You will spend more money feeding them each month than the entire gross profit of a litter.

laticeps is still what they are known as in the UK, its not all about the money in the end of it i would rather breed them and sell them to the LFS for a loss rather and let other people have the chance of owning a ray than have them fished out of their natural habitat and sold for a huge profit and destroy their habitat and preseve them for the future!!
and just for your info MILES i have read the aqualog on rays today from cover to cover!!:naughty:

You probably wont be finding any laticeps anywhere anymore. Its usually all retics or if you're lucky, orbignyi. Might as well just get a shoal of retics. And miles is right about the food money, if you've never kept a ray yet, they eat ALOT, especially in a shoal, theres competition, they eat even more. Make sure you can afford the food money...
