Bad news for me, I may have lost the good bacteria in my FX5 during a major cleaning tonight. I have 30 pounds of lava rock in my aquarium and was wondering if any good bacteria might possibly be living on it? Really just looking to dodge a bullet with this one. Does anyone know if that is a possibility? I'd appreciate your opinions and knowledge. Thanks!

I know that some BB is on all the surfaces in the tank.the lava rock has much area.not sure how much.I would try to use it in a filter the oxygen and flow over it will help it multiply faster

Depending on how heavily stocked you are, you may be fine. Just keep an eye on your water parameters. I would start testing the water pretty frequently for a while, if you aren't already.

Why do u think the bb died in your fx5? Did u clean the bio media with tap water or something?

I agree with Jesse's suggestion above. Testing will be the only way to verify any potential spikes.

As stated above, all surfaces covered in the water will have a biofilm of beneficial bacteria, and as long as you aren't too overstocked, you may be covered.
I use lava rock in as media in my bio-fractionators inside for aquaria and outside for ponds.
