Greetings all, I'm starting to get my new (ish) l-shaped tank setup.. I've got some black substrate on order, and I'm looking for some very dark tank furniture to complement it.
Has anyone got any experience of using lava rock in thier tanks? Does it go through any chemical changes, or emit and noxious/unpleasant chemicals into the water? Will it affect the colour of the water in my tank? Does it have any other side effects that will dictate the fish that end up in this tank?

I'd appreciate on info on this, I can't currently get any details, but if anyone would know, then you lot would :)

Link (purely for illustration purposes... ) here

Thanks! :)

Thanks - do you have experience of this yourself?

Not all lava rock is inert, but it should safe anyways. Depending on different locations of formation there can be different trace minerals in there (i.e. the red is iron rich).

Never had a problem using lava rock and to answer all of your questions no...just make sure you take all of the neccesary precautions while cleaning it

Fantastic - thanks a lot for this info :)
