plenty of filtration:d

i've had this problem before i removed any decor i had in the tank cleaned it up, because that stuff can easily get embedded in your decor , i ran a fluval 404 on a 60gallon i cleaned the bio max and changed my filter cartages, and it did the trick give it a shot helped my problem!

is it harmfull?
thats all im wroried bout
insightly i care not for

from my experience it is harmful if the problem is not corrected soon when i was younger i let this go on for about 2 days and 3 out of 4 fish died so i would fix it asap, in this case i had a 20g with 4 regular goldfish with a regular hob filter you live and learn keep us updated bro!

oh, i have had this problem for ages
any tank of mine that does have a over flow - this happens, i feed my fish shrimps and beef heart you see
i thin its residue from that.

this hasnt started recently
i just thought id ask

What foods do you use for your fish? Sounds like protein film. Try using tissue papers on the surface and see if the protein film will be removed.

fats and oils? you can get this material they use to suck up oil spills but i use a flat peice of foam with a hole cut in the middle with a triangle slot cut toward that. then i direct an air line at th water tension and intowards the circle cutout. then it builds there and i scoop it off with a small cup.

i take it you have no foam factionator on your tank? a collumn with bubbles popping on the top and the flow through the column below the tank surface?
