My dovii sometimes just lays or swims low to the ground in one place for hours,but when after i do a water change,he is more active then ever.How often would you do water changes for a beast like this.

Sounds like the tank is too small....How big of a tank is he in? When dovii are comfortable with there surroundings, they continuously hunt for food till they get fed and still do it when they get done eating. Sounds like he is getting atrophy...
its probably cause the tank is too small. how big is the tank? maybe you should consider upgrading.
If I remeber it is a 75 gallon tank and he knows he has to get a bigger tank lol. Hey did you ever get the 150 gallon for him yet? Yeah usually when a fish does this they aren't comfortable in their enviroment. Maybe water changes just excite him and get him moving again. Whats your WC schedule?
