Friday i finished up a pack of frozen bloodworms for my fish. and forgot to buy more the same day. I always see how people feed their fish shrimp and stuff. So i found some market shrimp in my freezer outback and cut one up in pretty small peices small enough for most of the fish the eat half of it. then i was more worried about my p.sengal eating. he took one peice and it was kinda big for him but he resembled a snake taking it in one way and if it didnt work try the other. he finally got it down. and began swimming around the tank again like normal at that point i guess he knew that he was full for a long time. then today i go to the lfs and get more frozen stuff and i was getting ready to feed to see him just laying down looking pretty normal then i left him alone and a few worms flew past his face and he usually goes after one then another. but when he moved i notice his stomache was still lumpy maybe he found some peices of shrimp hiding and ate again. all the other fish finished the worms and pellets and such then i came back to look at the tank and noticed him facing down towards the sand and his tail facing the top of the water like this " | " behind my air tubing line just sitting there he moved and then came back. should i be worried? or is he just trying to digest the shrimp or whatever he could have ate?

sometimes bichirs get gas which has a tendancy to make their ass ends float from what ive read and it usually releives itself.
also when feeding baby bichirs i have been told rounded belly is good,
as long as its not overfeeding causing the fish to float.
i hand feed mine because they are relatively slow at finding their food at times and to cut down on uneaten/found food waste.

also as for him sitting behind your airlines, that is normal, mine has his spot behind the heater where he sits on the suction cup for a while each day.most likely its a security spot for them

My little Senegal likes to wrap himself around my heater up high in the corner of the tank too, he seems happy up there. I'd agree it provides him with a sense of security but a part of me is wondering if he's just been spying on my Electric Blue who makes the temple below the heater his home..

Also my Bichir has had a plump stomach a few times but it always goes away after an hour or two. He always has a huge smile so I never got to worrying if it was something other than a full tummy. Good luck with your bichir they're great
